Bits and Pieces
Ready for the Weekend
Well, folks, DonationPay is taking the weekend off, so I thought I’d leave you with a list of resources for a few non-profit-y things you might be considering in the new year.
-One of my personal resolutions this year is to find an organization in town that I can commit to volunteering with for at least six months. I know a lot of people are probably making similar resolutions this year, so here’s a handy crib sheet on how best to become a stellar volunteer:
-I don’t Twitter, myself, but it can often be a valuable tool for marketing and community building for non profits. So here is an interesting article from Change.org: Twitter Tips for Non Profit Organizations.
-Speaking of Twitter, here are Ten Tips on Social Networking, for Non-Profits.
-Check out the Top Ten Non-Profits Fighting Poverty.
-And check out this video for tips on how non-profits can use Youtube to further their cause.
-Finally, maybe this has very little to do with non-profits, but it certainly would be a fun craft project to do over a weekend. Also, it’s kind of about recycling. My sister has a 4 month year old son (Lucas Jose, sweetness incarnate, totally adorable) and pretty soon she’s going to start accruing a serious amount of baby food jars. These little containers, as it turns out, make super-fun Etched Spice Jars. Just follow the instructions in the link and you can have a matched set gorgeous spice jars . . . and do your civic recycling duty. Also, here’s How to Support Eco-Friendly Charities.
And. . . fin.
Have a nice weekend.

I didn’t know it was so easy to etch glass! I already keep all my spices in random glass jars (I like how the various shapes compliment each other), but it’s such a pain to label those jars, because permanent marker is not so permanent on glass. Thanks for this great idea!
